465 Franklin Street, c. 1900

Several decades ago this was a candy/tobacco store and it is also thought that this is where Jerry Farro may have opened his barber shop in 1931, before he moved it to 101 North Washington Street.
Stan Rodia says that this is where Johnny Duff opened his own barber shop around 1973. Johnny used to work for Stan Rodia, Sr. next to Tim’s Tavern but when Stan Sr. died in 1973 Johnny opened “Johnny’s Barber Shop” here. Stan Jr. says, “Johnny was quite the character with his ’64 Buick Riviera and later his green ’68 AMC AMX that he raced all over the country. He hit a telephone pole with it and almost killed himself! They had to wire him back together at Johns Hopkins. . . but he made it back. Really great guy.” Johnny lived on Otsego Street at North Stokes Street and had a barber pole outside his house in the 1960s.
In 1991, 465 was the home of “The Duck Stops Here,” owned by Jimmie McMillan who sold just about anything related to ducks and decoys. In 1996, Bahoukas Collectibles was opened by George Wagner in this very small building. Four years later Bahoukas Antique Mall and Beer Museum moved to the larger quarters next door at 401 North Union Avenue, and in 2004 George Wagner bought the whole A.P. McCombs building and operated his beer museum on the second floor. At some point it was Angie’s Creations but Creations Hair Salon is here now and is in Harford County records as part of the 401 North Union Avenue property.
